A Workshop On Self-Awareness
Give yourself the best gift you can ever give: to know yourself.
In the past few years, I’ve read a lot about living a more fulfilled life. It sounds lovely. But what exactly does it mean to be fulfilled? I had to look it up.
To be fulfilled is to be fully alive, fully present and live a life true to who we are. This could mean different things to different people. Maybe we’re in a career that’s the right fit for us, or we have a wonderful partner who brings out the best in us, or we have a hobby that brings us joy. If we’re lucky, maybe we have all of these things and more.
But how do we live a life true to who we are? Do we even know who we are? How do we make better decisions about our work, our loves or even our weekends? How do we figure out what’s really holding us back from achieving our fullest potential?
It all starts with self-awareness. Socrates said it best when he said at his trial, “The unexamined life is not worth living”. Getting to know oneself is arguably the most beautiful, complex and worthy of life’s goals.
I understand and appreciate this now. But it wasn’t always this way.
Throughout my twenties, I was stuck in a spiral of poor decisions, low self-esteem and self-hatred. I was miserable. I kept asking myself why but my head was too much in a fog to get any answers. So in my thirties, I went on a quest to try and understand myself better. Through therapy, introspection and self-inquiry (and a wonderful partner!), I realized what was at the root of my difficulties and how I could overcome them. And now in my forties, I’m finally (mostly) comfortable with myself.
I know this sounds a bit far-fetched, but I truly believe that if everyone were more self-aware, this world would be slightly less terrible, because we would all be living more fulfilled, more authentic lives.
Alright, all of this sounds great. But how does one really get to know oneself? In all my years of research on this topic, I didn’t really come across anything that I liked, so I decided to create my own workshop.
With the help of fun, real-world exercises that I’ve curated over the years, this self-awareness workshop will teach you how to get to know yourself better. These exercises are timeless — you can come back and work on them again and again. And I recommend you do because we all change over the course of our lives.
By the end of the workshop, you’ll come away with your very own toolkit of exercises to understand how to get to know yourself.
Remember, getting to know yourself is a lifelong journey. This workshop won’t solve your life’s problems. But it will give you a wonderful headstart into your very own journey of self-awareness.
